The Burcht van Leiden is an old medieval fortification. The fort is best described as a stone structure circling the top of a motte. It was constructed in the 11th century. The Burcht is located at the spot where two tributaries of the Rhine come together, the Oude Rijn and the Nieuwe Rijn. Today the structure is a public park.
